About Mary & Keir McNamara - Acupuncture Turnpike Clinic
Welcome to McNamara’s Turnpike Clinic winner of WhatClinic customer service award 2014 and holder of a five star badge for customer satisfaction
Founded in 1992 McNamara’s Turnpike Clinic is one of the oldest and most established acupuncture clinics in Co. Clare. With over 50 years of combined experience in medical, health and scientific fields between us, we have observed that if you give yourself the right conditions: healthy and nutritious diet, appropriate exercise, relaxation, and non-invasive treatments such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional therapies, and massage, you will give your body the opportunity for its own natural healing powers to start working to take you to a state of health and recovery.
Mary McNamara is a mother of six children who has over 40 years of experience in the health care business. Originally trained as a nurse in Dublin, Mary spent many years working in hospitals in Dublin, Clare and the USA, ending up as night matron in Carrigoran nursing home in New Market. While working there she realised the benefits of acupuncture when she used it to cure chronic arthritis that she had been suffering from since her early 20’s. She trained in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Dublin under Prof. Tom Shanahan, having previously studied child psychology. Since then she has also studied kinesiology. Dr. Keir McNamara is Mary’s second son, and works alongside her in a unique mother and son business. Keir, a past Irish International Athlete has always had a passion for health and medicine, but began his career as an Agricultural Scientist and worked with Teagasc as a Walsh Fellow where he completed his Ph. D. Studies in 2001. Prior to that he completed a post graduate course in Sports Injury and Fitness management, and is into his 14th season working with teams in Co. Clare. Keir completed his Acupuncture Studies with the College of Integrative Acupuncture in Galway in 2006 and has been working at the clinic since. He has recently completed courses in Tung acupuncture, an ancient divergent form of acupuncture that developed in Tawain.
