Our Chartered Physiotherapists provide post-operative treatment for a wide range of injuries and conditions to help restore movement and function to as near normal as possible for someone who is affected by injury.     The cost for the initial consultation at Medfit is €65. At the consultation, an experienced Physiotherapist will discuss your ailment and your lifestyle with you, then conduct an examination to assess your needs. The exact form of the assessment will depend on your ailment. If appropriate, the physiotherapist will use Medfit's unique range of equipment to accurately assess your function. He or she will provide treatment if that is appropriate, and discuss further treatment options and the costs involved.

    Biography:

    Xavier is a chartered physiotherapist who graduated in 2000 in Brussels where he is from. He started his career studying Global Postural Reeducation in France and worked in private practice for 7 years. In 2005, Xavier obtained a Certificate in S.H.E.N. therapy, a gentle but powerful technique designed to help people improving their emotional health and wellbeing. In 2007, he moved to Ireland where he certified as a NASM Personal Trainer Level 3 and worked in the fitness industry for 3 years. Xavier is currently completing a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy in UCD.

    His biomechanical and movement performance knowledge allows him to successfully train and treat people from various backgrounds and pathologies; from children, teenagers to elderlies and from amateurs to sports professionals. A combination of being a successful Level 3 Personal Trainer with an experienced physiotherapy background facilitates a client’s optimum return to function following injury, illness or surgery. He works closely with referring medical professionals to ensure that patients reach their goals.

    Biography:

    Paula Mee runs the Nutrition Consultancy in Medfit. She has worked with educational, pharmaceutical and food organisations in the health and wellness. Combining nutritional advice and the correct amount of safe exercise allows the clients at Medfit to achieve their goals.

    Paula has also worked as the Nutrition Manager for Superquinn, where she developed her interest in and understanding of the food chain. Prior to that she worked as senior nutritionist in the National Dairy Council. Paula currently sits on the board of Consumer Foods in Bord Bia.

    She has presented RTE TV's Health Squad programme and is a regular participant on RTE's The Afternoon Show. Paula graduated from University College Galway with a BSc in Biochemistry. She received postgraduate qualifications in Dietetics and a Masters in Health Science in Leeds Metropolitan University. Paula also holds a Diploma in Allergy from Southampton University and has completed the British Dietetic Association's Sports Dietician course.

    Biography:

    John is a Specialist Member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists in the discipline of Sports Medicine and an accredited Level 3 Sports Physiotherapist.

    Academically John graduated with an honours degree in Physiotherapy from UCD in 1996. He subsequently completed a research MSc in Physiotherapy in UCD, and a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies. From his research on sports injuries associated with Gaelic Sports he is a published lead author in the American Journal of Sports Medicine as well as the British Journal of Sports Medicine in 2010 and co-author in 2011.

    He is the co-founder and Clinical Director of Medfit as well as a Senior Partner in Carysfort Physiotherapy Clinic. “Over the past 14 years in private practice I have been involved in the rehabilitation of over 500 ACL injuries, and over 200 post spinal surgery patients. This in combination with the large volume of recurrent musculoskeletal conditions that I treat in my clinic necessitated the development of a facility for the post acute stage of injury. This is the origin of Medfit, a unique facility designed to maximise recovery and optimise physical well being”

    Kate is a Chartered Physiotherapist who graduated from Robert Gordon University (MSc pre-registration in Physiotherapy with Merit) in 2012. Previous to this Kate graduated from Dublin City University with a BSc in Athletic Therapy and Training (First Class Honours) in 2009 and progressed to become a Certified Athletic Rehabilitation Therapist. Her educational background has allowed her to become specialised in the prevention, assessment and diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries related to physical activities.

    Kate is further certified as a Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as well as certified as an Emergency First Responder by PHECC (Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council). Her personal interests include injury prevention programmes, biomechanics of sporting injuries in particularly Gaelic games and chronic back pain.     Professor Carel le Roux graduated from medical school at University of Pretoria, South Africa and was awarded his PhD in 2005 from Imperial College London.

    He is a member of a number of learned societies such as the Association for the Study of Obesity and the Nutrition Society. He has been published extensively and currently holds a number of editorial roles for journals in his field including, Clinical Obesity and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases. Prof le Roux is an expert in metabolic medicine and is currently a Professor of Experimental Pathology, University College Dublin. He is recognised as a world leader in metabolism and obesity.

    Prof le Roux’s clinical focus will be in the management of bariatric surgery, adjustment and reviews of gastric band surgery, type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular risk and other metabolic disorders.
