What is Liposuction?

I got a breast augmentation at the start of the summer and it was the best decision I ever made. I went for a consultation and it was carried out by Dr Tunau. I’m very petite and I haven’t seen anyone my size with implants that actually looked good , they always look to large for their frame. I’d been to other clinics before for consultations and they had pushed larger implants on me. Dr Tunau wasn’t like this. I picked a 270cc implant /teardrop (this is on the smaller end of implants ) I did second guess the size a few times but I’m glad I stuck to the 270cc . The surgery was carried out by Dr Salam. He’s a lovely man and put me at ease, I wasn’t nervous at all the day of surgery. All the staff members are very kind from the nurses to anaesthetist, the after care is unbelievable, they will call you for a few days after the surgery to check how you are etc. I’ve had a fantastic recovery. I was out and about a few days after surgery ..zero pain at all. I’m a few months post surgery and my implants look real . They fit my body so well. With the 270cc implant I went from an A cup to a D cup . I wasn’t expecting this but I’m not complaining.

My first impression of Mr Chan’s consultation rooms in Blackrock Clinic were hundreds of thank you cards. He was recommended to me as the best so I patiently waited months to see him. I had heavy eyelids and looked half asleep at best! Mr Chan went through everything in detail leaving nothing out. I now look brighter, and younger after having the excess skin removed from my upper eyelids. My peripheral vision has improved as has my confidence. I can’t wait to wear eye makeup and particularly eye shadow. The experience from initial consultation to final after care appointment could not be improved in any way, shape or form. Mr Fuan Chan is an absolute gentleman and the best. Any pre surgery jitters were diminished with the expertise Fuan exudes and all those cards speak for themselves.

Early liposuction was associated with significant blood loss, which limited the amount of fat that could be removed in a single procedure. In 1987, Dr J. Klein introduced the tumescent technique in liposuction surgery. This tumescent technique involved the infiltration of solution which contained local anaesthetic agents and epinephrine to the site of fatty tissue prior to liposuction. This technique enables removal of larger volumes of fat without excessive blood loss which translates to better safety and patient care. During the liposuction procedure, specially designed cannula(probes) of varying size are use, depending on the deposition, volume and characteristic of the fat at the target sites. Liposuction by itself is not a technically difficult procedure but the challenge lies in having the aesthetic sense to achieve a great contour and smooth transition that fit the aesthetic ideal for the patient. With better surgical techniques and medical advances, liposuction has become one of the safest procedures in cosmetic surgery. In addition, liposuction has also become a common procedure being used in combination with other surgery such as tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), breast surgery and fat grafting surgery. The success of surgery is in ensuring that the operating surgeon and the patient are agreed the same page operative goals and expectations. There are inherent risk and complications, these include, but are not limited to, bleeding, infection, bruising, seroma, contour irregularity and asymmetry.

Of note, patients are also informed of the scars and understood that any stretch marks(striae) on the abdomen will still remained after the surgery.
