Reduce the prominence of your ears

Ear surgery (otoplasty) is used to reduce an ear prominence. Ears are either brought closer to the head or reduced in size. This procedure can also be used to remove asymmetry.

Ear surgery is often carried out early in life, from four onwards, as it can improve a child’s social experience. The operation can also be carried out in later life if not done earlier.

Length

Otoplasty typically lasts between two and three hours.

Procedure

The reshaping and positioning of the ear is created by removal and sculpting of cartilage within the ear or by the use of stitches to reshape the existing cartilage. The desired final shape of the ear determines where incisions and work on the cartilage are carried out.

Recovery

Normal activities can be resumed within a week with strenuous activity possible within one or two months.

Risks

Risks with this procedure are low. Clots are an infrequent occurrence and usually easily corrected. Infection is possible but again usually mild and easily treated.

Mr Fuan Chan Blackrock Clinic

(01) 525 5379 Suite 14, Blackrock Clinic, Rock Rd, Blackrock, Dublin
Rating from 29 Reviews I would reccomend you to anyone thinking about having a cosmetic procedureDympna, Dublin, 09 Jun 16

For years I hated how my neck looked and always wanted to do something about it.Someone I knew had surgery done by Mr. Chan and said what a good and caring Surgeon he was.I googled and when I read his accreditation made an appt. to see him.In April I had my first consultation followed by a 2nd one 2 weeks later. From the moment I met him in his rooms he put me at ease.I opted for an upper eyelid and neck lift.He explained in great detail the procedure and what I could expect from it and the cost it would incur.Four weeks later I had the surgery.A week later Mr.Chan removed the sutures from the eyes, and then another week later he removed the sutures from the chin and behind the ears.I healed fantastically well and was delighted with the result.Thank you Mr. Chan for working your magic.I would reccomend you to anyone thinking about having a cosmetic procedure. It's never too late ladies,I am in my early seventies!!!!!! Great experience in Blackrock Clinic, arrived at 8a.m for surgery @10.a.m. Iwas shown to my room and within minutesMr.Chan arrivedWe had a chat and there followed a number of tests carried out with great efficiency and speed.About 9.30 word came from Mr. Chan that he was ready in theatre.I walked down with a nurse, met the Anaesthetist, had a few words with her and don't remember any more until I was being spoken to back in my room that evening.I felt safe and well cared for and the nursing staff were very attentive and caring during the night.Mr. Chan came to see me in the morning and again before I went home that evening. He wrote up a prescription for me and went through a list of a few do's and dont's with me.He said he would see me in his rooms a week from then.Everything ran very smoothly during my time in the Blackrock Clinic

Ear fold - A New Innovation To Correct Prominent Ears €2600  -  €3600
Ear correction is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures currently being done in Ireland. Having protruding ears can significantly impact on self-esteem and people can be very self-conscious about their appearance, particularly when they are in their teens. A simple invention called the earFold device has proven to be extremely effective. These are metal alloy clips we use to pin back the ears of a patient, to create a customised result.

Dublin Cosmetic Surgery Centre

Otoplasty
Protruding ears (“Bat Ears”) is an inherited condition and can cause significant embarrassment especially if a person is constantly teased. In all people the ears are not completely symmetrical and it is usual for one ear to be further out than the other. There are two ways in which the ears can protrude more than usual: 1. The inner part of the ear flap (concha) might be unusually long or large.2. The angle between the concha and the outer part of the ear flap (helix) might not be properly formed so the helix extends sideways rather than going backwards (the usual position). Often both of the above conditions exist in severe cases of protruding ears. The purpose of an ear reshape operation (otoplasty) is to reduce the distance between the side of the head and the protruding part of the ear to about 15mm (1/2”). Ear reshape (otoplasty) can also (a) reduce the size and projection of the concha if it is too big and/or (b) establish the normal angle between the concha and the helix. It is not usually possible to reduce the size of very large ears that have a normal shape due to the complex shape of the ear. The Dublin Cosmetic Surgery Centre has successfully performed ear reshapes on hundreds of women and men over the last 20 years.

Rating from 9 Reviews Couldn't have asked for a better Otoplasty procedureCian, Ireland, 08 Sep 16

I had otoplasty done to both of my ears. Procedure made very easy and stress-free by all staff. Always seemed to be ready to help with any queries or problems. Very good. Couldn't ask for better.

I am very happy with the result and would recommend anyone thinking about the procedureJennifer, Ireland, 02 May 16

At the end of March 2016, I had bitlateral otoplasty. I had wanted to get this done for as long as I can remember but had always been daunted by what I thought the process would entail and so, I put it off for a good few years. (I am now 27 years old) Dr. John Curran was my surgeon and I met him for two consultations prior to the procedure. When I met him, he gave me an assessment of my ears and what he could do. He also explained the procedure. My impression of him was that he has a very measured and sensible approach. He encouraged me to think about it which I really appreciated - I didn't feel pressured into anything which made me feel relaxed and comfortable. On the day of the procedure, he met my partner and I and I and he has excellent bedside manner - he settled my nerves and I was excited to have the procedure done. I was under general anaesthetic for the procedure and it took approximately two and a half hours. I experienced little or no pain after my treatment, I did take painkillers to keep any tenderness/discomfort at bay. It has been 7 weeks since my surgery and I am really happy that I had it done. I feel like my ears are still my own but now are much more unnoticeable and they are more in proportion to my other facial features. I am a lot more confident and am happy to tie up my hair etc. - something I have always hated doing. The hardest part of the process for me was the recovery time which meant wearing a dressing for one week post treatment. I was lucky in that I had time off of work for Easter but I was impatient for the week to be up so I could get the dressing off and be out and about again! On the whole, it was a very small price to pay. I am very happy with the result and would recommend anyone thinking about the procedure to book a consultation. The process was a lot easier than I had initially imagined and I am so happy that I did it. I had my otoplasty treatment with Dr. John Curran at the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee and my experience was really positive. Everybody I met that day - from the reception staff, to the nurses, anaesthetist and my surgeon, was really caring and professional and I was very well looked after. The day was just easy and everything went really smoothly. My treatment took place at 9am and I was able to leave later that day around 4pm. It was my first time at the Bon Secours Tralee and I will definitely return if I need to have treatment in the future.

Rating from 1 Review Very professional and helpfulAgnes, Ireland, 03 Nov 15

I am very happy with The Sandymount Clinic, I have always found them to be very professional and helpful. There is a friendly and atmosphere there. I have had some treatments and as a result some friends have followed with the same treatments. I am also happy with the cost involved for each treatment. I do not wish to go into details about them. It was recommended, I was happy with the advice the treatment the result etc. My first impressions were good and I have stayed with the Sandymount Clinic since my first visit. I find Mr. Small very easy to talk to and the rest of the staff are very nice to deal with also.
