Why is meant by Denture Repair?

Denture repair involves re-fitting the denture or repairing a broken, worn or cracked denture. A denture that fits well helps patients smile, eat and speak comfortably.

Why do dentures need to be repaired?

The mouth and gums of patients keep changing and dentures need to be repaired and refitted to adapt to the change so that patients wearing the dentures will not be uncomfortable.  The denture may also become worn with use. Patients may accidentally drop their dentures and break them.

How long does it take to have a Denture Repaired?

When a denture breaks, patients will need a replacement quickly. Most denturists offer same day denture repairs. If the denture has broken into many pieces, patients may require a new denture. Making a new denture may take two days to a week.

How are Dentures Repaired?

Dentures are repaired by adding acrylic to the denture. Acrylic easily bonds with cracks and seals any broken part of the denture. A metal rod may be inserted between the broken pieces to strengthen the denture. Some pieces may be glued together. Dentures are repaired either by a dentist or a laboratory technician called a denturist.

What care is required after Dentures are repaired?

Patients should follow correct dental hygiene. They should handle the denture with care. They should clean the denture carefully with a denture cleaner and with a soft toothbrush. They should remove their denture over a basin filled with water. They should not wear their dentures at night.
