About Mary & Keir McNamara - Acupuncture Turnpike Clinic

Welcome to McNamara’s Turnpike Clinic winner of WhatClinic customer service award 2014 and holder of a five star badge for customer satisfaction

Founded in 1992 McNamara’s Turnpike Clinic is one of the oldest and most established acupuncture clinics in Co. Clare.
With over 50 years of combined experience in medical, health and scientific fields between us, we have observed that if you give yourself the right conditions: healthy and nutritious diet, appropriate exercise, relaxation, and non-invasive treatments such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutritional therapies, and massage, you will give your body the opportunity for its own natural healing powers to start working to take you to a state of health and recovery.

Mary McNamara is a mother of six children who has over 40 years of experience in the health care business. Originally trained as a nurse in Dublin, Mary spent many years working in hospitals in Dublin, Clare and the USA, ending up as night matron in Carrigoran nursing home in New Market. While working there she realised the benefits of acupuncture when she used it to cure chronic arthritis that she had been suffering from since her early 20’s. She trained in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine Dublin under Prof. Tom Shanahan, having previously studied child psychology. Since then she has also studied kinesiology.

Dr. Keir McNamara is Mary’s second son, and works alongside her in a unique mother and son business. Keir, a past Irish International Athlete has always had a passion for health and medicine, but began his career as an Agricultural Scientist and worked with Teagasc as a Walsh Fellow where he completed his Ph. D. Studies in 2001. Prior to that he completed a post graduate course in Sports Injury and Fitness management, and is into his 14th season working with teams in Co. Clare. Keir completed his Acupuncture Studies with the College of Integrative Acupuncture in Galway in 2006 and has been working at the clinic since. He has recently completed courses in Tung acupuncture, an ancient divergent form of acupuncture that developed in Tawain.

Needles are in without feeling anything only pressure

5 50 Acupuncturist Consultation

The treatment was 30-40 minutes long and you are in a nice warm quiet room, so totally relaxed for the duration of your treatment. For people who are nervous about needles while you are talking to Keir or Mary about why you are in the clinic in the first place, the needles are in without feeling anything only pressure. They are brilliant with children too.

I have been to Keir & Mary McNamara on numerous occasions for acupuncture for sinus & migraine and I would highly recommend them. I don't like needles but the relief I got after my 1st session was brilliant so rather than take tablets I would recommend this clinic in turnpike. My son at the age of 2 years developed Asthma and he was put on a preventative inhaler by our GP but since going to Keir he has not used an inhaler of any kind and he is now a healthy 14 year old, never on antibiotics.

Contact us for a comprehensive description of the services we offer.

Founded in 1992 McNamara’s Turnpike Clinic is one of the oldest and most established acupuncture clinics in Co. Clare.

Auricular Acupuncture

We use auricular acupunture all the time and find it especially beneficial for people trying to give up smoking and those suffering from anxiety

Electro-Acupuncture

Fertility Acupuncture

Whether you have decided you wish to have a child now or are planning ahead, unfortunately becoming pregnant is often not as easy as we would like.

With an increase in conditions such as polycystic ovaries and endometriosis as well as unexplained infertility, and male sperm count reportedly falling in the last ten years, becoming pregnant has become increasingly difficult.
With couples also waiting until later to conceive which further reduces the chances, it is best to get your body in the best possible shape before.
We have been working for years to help hopeful couples get pregnant. Acupuncture works by balancing the hormonal cycle, relieving stress and providing optimum health for both partners. Acupuncture, frequently combined with herbal medicine, has been used for centuries to treat some causes of infertility.
For example, acupuncture and herbs will not work to address tubal adhesions which can occur as a result of pelvic inflammatory disease or endometriosis. However, in this situation, an individual could still benefit from acupuncture and herbs because of the potential effect of improved ovarian and follicular function.
Additionally, it is shown that acupuncture can increase blood flow to the endometrium, helping to facilitate a thick, rich lining.
