A detailed medical history is taken including questions about the patients diet and lifestyle and anything else relevant to a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnosis. A tongue and pulse diagnosis is also made. Treatment is then given accordingly. The first treatment is included in the consultation fee. For this reason, first appointments may take 1hour to 1hour 30mins. Subsequent appointments will take from 45 mins to 1 hour depending on what the patient is being treated for.( At least 3-4 treatments are usually required, though not always.) Treatment consists of inserting very fine needles into pre-determined points on the face, body ,arms or legs. Discomfort is usually minimal and subsides once the needle is in situ. They are usually left in place for up to 30 mins. Sometimes they are warmed with a lighted herbal roll called " moxa". This can re-inforce a treatment and also transfer heat into the body where necessary. Patients generally find this extremely relaxing. Another type of treatment called "cupping" may also be used, before or after acupuncture. This consists of applying suction cups to the skin (usually on the back or shoulders) and dragging the cup along the area . This is good for muscle problems and soreness and stiffness. It moves the blood and eases stagnation. Acupuncture  can be safely used alongside most western medical treatments or medications or alone and can help or totally alleviate almost any condition.
Fertility Acupuncture
Assessment of the patients health and a complete medical history is taken, including tongue and pulse diagnosis. Current or past fertility treatments/pregnancies are also taken into account. Treatment is with acupuncture, homeopathy and dietary/ lifestyle advice. Acupuncture can be used  in conjunction with IVF and will improve the chances of its success. A course of treatments, tailored to the patient's individual needs, will be necessary. Point prescriptions vary according to the phases of the  menstrual cycle, so it is important to persevere with the treatments over several months in order to achieve the desired results.
