On average, patients need to wear braces for about 2 years and then they need to wear a retainer to maintain the corrected position of teeth. For some adults treatment may take about 3 years.

How are braces installed on teeth?

For fixed braces, the orthodontist dries the teeth and places glue or bonding cement on the braces. The braces are placed on teeth and a UV light is shone on them to cure the glue or cement. For removable braces, an impression of the teeth is taken and a technician makes the removable brace consisting of a plastic plate and wires. The brace is then fitted on teeth.

Braces exert a steady pressure on teeth. The pressure is periodically adjusted as needed by the orthodontist. Eventually the pressure exerted by braces corrects the alignment of teeth.

Do braces hurt?

Braces are uncomfortable when first placed on teeth. Patients experience soreness and need to get used to the pressure exerted on the teeth by braces. Patients normally get used to braces within a month.

Very professional, the lovely Dentist Randa, went through all my procedures thoroughly before anything, she talked me through what she was doing and confirmed that I understood what and why she was going to do that treatment. I had a full clean and 3 fillings, Randa has a wealth of knowledge and treatments offered are given with great care. I was made to feel very comfortable. We don’t use traditional braces because we know that your physical appearance matters to you. This highly specialised branch of Orthodontics can’t be administered by any dentist. We use Invisalign invisible braces to achieve the results you want. Dr. Robby Sehmi is the only accredited Invisalign specialists in Stanhope Gardens. Invisalign is a process that straightens your teeth by using a series of clear, removable aligners that replaces the need for metal braces. The course of treatment involves changing aligners approximately every two weeks, moving your teeth into straighter position step by step, until you have a more beautiful smile. And unlike braces, these clear aligners can be removed while you eat and brush your teeth as usual. An average Invisalign course of treatment takes about a year.
