What is a root canal? It is a common procedure in dentistry. Your dentist Dr. Ellie can save your natural tooth with this treatment and prevent a future need for more expensive treatments like implant or dentures.
Deep decays, cracks, chips or trauma to the tooth can cause infection in the centre of the tooth where the pulp is. The dentist can identify this infection by identifying:
- A visible injury
- Temperature sensitivity
- Pain or swelling of the tooth or gums.

Root canal usually involves local anaesthesia and this treatment is completed in one or two visits to the clinic. Tooth Extraction Procedure
During a tooth extraction process you should expect pressure. It is required to rock the tooth so that the socket is widened for the removal of the tooth.
If the tooth is firmly attached in the socket or if it is a tooth with a curved root, sectioning may be required to cut the tooth into pieces and remove the pieces one by one.
After extraction blood clot should form to stop the bleeding and start the natural healing process. You may feel some post extraction pain which is generally normal. You can keep the swelling to minimum with an ice pack or an unopened bag of frozen peas.
