What is Bad Breath?

Bad breath, or halitosis, is a condition where patients have a bad odour coming from their mouths. It may be a rare temporary condition or it may be a chronic on-going condition.

What causes Bad Breath?

Bad breath is usually caused by poor oral hygiene. The bacteria that forms between teeth when patients do not brush or floss regularly cause a bad smell. Garlic and other food with strong smells can contribute to halitosis. Smoking and some medications, including chemotherapy medications, cause halitosis. Patients who go on diets sometimes suffer halitosis and patients with a health condition called dry mouth, where the mouth does not produce sufficient saliva suffer halitosis.  Fear of flying or public speaking, etc, can also trigger halitosis.

How is Bad Breath treated?

Dentists or dental hygienists will professionally clean teeth to treat halitosis. They will also give patients correct dental hygiene instructions to stop bad breath. They will treat dental problems like gum diseases to stop bad breath.

How long does recovery take after receiving a treatment for Bad Breath?

The recovery from halitosis depends on the cause and method used to treat bad breath. Some patients feel pain or sensitivity after professional dental cleaning but should recover within a day.  Patients may take a week or two to recover from gum surgery. Patients with halitosis caused by smoking will recover a few weeks after ceasing smoking.

What after care is required after receiving a treatment for Bad Breath?

Patients should practice correct dental and oral hygiene. They should follow the advice of their dentist or hygienist correctly.

Rating from 11 Reviews The results exceeded my expectations, my teeth look fantasticBob, Canada, 30 Jan 18

I searched and searched, read reviews and searched some more. Finally settled on Denstetica for Veneers and a bridge, all on my top row. I was very apprehensive going to a foreign country, but excited as well. Denstetica is not a large practice by Western standards but the staff were amazing and very friendly. Dr. Bonila and Dr. Pena made sure I was well informed and comfortable with what was going to happen. It was a bit painful, it takes time to get so much done, but Dr. Pena constantly checked in to see how I was doing. The results exceeded my expectations, my teeth look fantastic! The cost was very affordable at $4800 US

Punta Cana Oral Health

Bv. 1ero. De Noviembre, Cedro, edificio no 404,, Punta Cana, 23000
Rating from 3 Reviews After my experience without pain and in less than a few hours, my teeth are better than everTina, US, 11 Jun 18

World class at Punta Cana Oral Health. Truly I could see the difference it makes to have a top expert seamlessly perform meticulous work on my mouth. Everything is state of the art! Robotics, complete one place service (Dentist, Endodontist, Orthodontist, Periodontist, Surgeon, Metal free, TMJ, etc). How refreshing to have an expert in all these fields. All around 5-star service including the additional touches of a beverage in a lovely waiting room, relaxing music, lovely palm tree views, no painful cleanings and nor shots instead of digital aesthetics. The genuine passion of Dr. Asenjo and his staff are unparalleled. The customer service, I do not have the words to express the professionalism. The smiles are genuine, instill a sense of trust and calm. I have always had a nervous visceral response going to the dentist and have often felt like I am part of an assembly line. I had lost a crown and had gone to see two dentists in the US, they caused me so much anxiety I was in tears after both visits. Even with insurance, the cost was becoming overwhelming with fees, additional services and products they told me I would need. They would not even give me a standard cleaning because they only wanted to charge me for an ultrasound and that was out of pocket, even after I explained my hypersensitivity to it. The outcome would have been to endure countless appointments, out of pocket expenses, painful shots and cleanings, time off of work, referrals and additional co-pays. After months of research, Punta Cana Oral Health exceeded my research criteria. The awards and testimonials were remarkable as well. After my experience without pain and in less than a few hours, my teeth are better than ever. I am now incredibly aware of how much US dentistry is archaic, lost in the dark ages. The cost savings for the work I had done at Punta Cana Oral Health allowed for the flight, a lovely holiday and relaxation. Additionally, with my receipt, I am able to use my HSA that I have been paying into. I am a Physical Therapist and so I have a unique perspective as a provider of medical services. I am inspired by Dr. Asenjo and I find myself excited to go back and have him correct past dental work that has for years has caused me grief. My only regret is not having replaced my other crown while I was there. I am no longer afraid!

Amazing!Kaye, Canada, 20 Nov 16

During my vacation in Punta Cana, I experienced some teeth pain and the beginning of my vacation was not a happy one. I googled "best dental surgeon in Punta Cana" and Dr. Miguel Asenjo was the first to show up. I did my research on him. I went on his Facebook and Instagram and noticed he has almost 10,000 followers!! I looked at all his work and I was amazed, but still skeptical, as I am a Canadian Citizen and I've heard so many stories about getting horrible dental work outside of Canada. I WAS WRONG!!!! All the staff at my resort knew him and said he was the best in Punta Cana and that many future soon to be dentist looked up to him. I emailed Dr. Asenjo and not only did he reply back he also called me back right away. He was so comforting and told me he would take care of me and he knew how expensive Canada charges for dental work, and told me not to worry about the money, and that he wanted to make sure I wasn't in pain anymore. I was very nervous before I met him the next day, just like any tourist would be, but when I met him I felt so relaxed and he was amazing. His office was clean and the technology he had was wayyyyyyyy more advanced than Canada!!! I couldn't believe my eyes!!! He gave me two fillings, X-rays and a cleaning and let me tell you this, my cab ride cost more than his services!!!! He also noticed I was missing a few teeth and needed two dental implants. He asked me why I haven't fixed them and I told him that my dentist in Canada quoted me $12,000 for two dental implants. He told me that was horrible and that he would help me and fix them for less than a quarter of what I was quoted on!!!!! I feel like I FOUND THE DENTAL GOD!!!! I believe everything happens for a reason and I am so grateful I trusted my gut and met him. I am flying back to Punta Cana in February to fix my dental implants and also get 5 crowns. This dental work I would never be able to afford in Canada. His work is A++++! Quality is amazing!!!! Please check him out on Instagram @drmiguelasenjo HE WILL NOT DISAPPOINT YOU! Thank you Dr.Miguel Asenjo for your hospitality and your caring personality!!! I will refer you to all my Canadian and USA friends for now on!! See you soon in 2017 when I come back for my next appt. CyrileKaye!
