What is Bad Breath?

Bad breath, or halitosis, is a condition where patients have a bad odour coming from their mouths. It may be a rare temporary condition or it may be a chronic on-going condition.

What causes Bad Breath?

Bad breath is usually caused by poor oral hygiene. The bacteria that forms between teeth when patients do not brush or floss regularly cause a bad smell. Garlic and other food with strong smells can contribute to halitosis. Smoking and some medications, including chemotherapy medications, cause halitosis. Patients who go on diets sometimes suffer halitosis and patients with a health condition called dry mouth, where the mouth does not produce sufficient saliva suffer halitosis.  Fear of flying or public speaking, etc, can also trigger halitosis.

How is Bad Breath treated?

Dentists or dental hygienists will professionally clean teeth to treat halitosis. They will also give patients correct dental hygiene instructions to stop bad breath. They will treat dental problems like gum diseases to stop bad breath.

How long does recovery take after receiving a treatment for Bad Breath?

The recovery from halitosis depends on the cause and method used to treat bad breath. Some patients feel pain or sensitivity after professional dental cleaning but should recover within a day.  Patients may take a week or two to recover from gum surgery. Patients with halitosis caused by smoking will recover a few weeks after ceasing smoking.

What after care is required after receiving a treatment for Bad Breath?

Patients should practice correct dental and oral hygiene. They should follow the advice of their dentist or hygienist correctly.

Rating from 9 Reviews I had a phenomenal experienceSharrona, US, 16 Feb 17

I had two implants done and also top dentures. I had a phenomenal experience. Very professional business, loving passionate people.

My experience was great from start to finish.Anonymous, brooklyn, 20 Jan 17

I went to see Dr. Pena to get veneers and I ended up fixing other issues besides my veneers. He is very thorough and I think a perfectionist!, which is great for me because it means you will get the best work done. He is very gentle with his hands and caring with his patients. He made sure I was not in any pain and that that I was very comfortable at all times. I had two decay fix prior to working on my veneers. I had My top and bottom teeth done. My teeth were not in bad condition in terms of Esthetics but were not like I wish I had them. My bottom teeth were crooked and I didn't want to do the Invisaline thing. Economically it made sense to travel to the Doiican Republic instead of N Y which is crazy expensive I saved about 55% in comparison. my prices for all my work is $30,000 dollars compare to the $14,000 dollars I spend including flight hotel and food etc. My teeth are great Im feeling great about my smile. My experience was great from start to finish. I enquired about this clinic after many other options through this website and I decided to go with Dentestica because of Dr. Pena. He anwer all of my question quickly and ask me for xrays so that he can do an evaluation prior to me traveling there to see what can be done and go over the logistics. I felt comfortable with him and after meeting his staff even more. He made it really easy for me providing ground transportation back and forth. He went beyond what a Dr. is expected to do in terms of accomodations and his work is phenomenal!! Even after I came home(NY) he kept in touch with me to see how my recovery was going. Still now that its been six months he contacts me about my progess. Love Dr. Pena and his staff!!

Rating from 2 Reviews Amazing!Kaye, Canada, 20 Nov 16

During my vacation in Punta Cana, I experienced some teeth pain and the beginning of my vacation was not a happy one. I googled "best dental surgeon in Punta Cana" and Dr. Miguel Asenjo was the first to show up. I did my research on him. I went on his Facebook and Instagram and noticed he has almost 10,000 followers!! I looked at all his work and I was amazed, but still skeptical, as I am a Canadian Citizen and I've heard so many stories about getting horrible dental work outside of Canada. I WAS WRONG!!!! All the staff at my resort knew him and said he was the best in Punta Cana and that many future soon to be dentist looked up to him. I emailed Dr. Asenjo and not only did he reply back he also called me back right away. He was so comforting and told me he would take care of me and he knew how expensive Canada charges for dental work, and told me not to worry about the money, and that he wanted to make sure I wasn't in pain anymore. I was very nervous before I met him the next day, just like any tourist would be, but when I met him I felt so relaxed and he was amazing. His office was clean and the technology he had was wayyyyyyyy more advanced than Canada!!! I couldn't believe my eyes!!! He gave me two fillings, X-rays and a cleaning and let me tell you this, my cab ride cost more than his services!!!! He also noticed I was missing a few teeth and needed two dental implants. He asked me why I haven't fixed them and I told him that my dentist in Canada quoted me $12,000 for two dental implants. He told me that was horrible and that he would help me and fix them for less than a quarter of what I was quoted on!!!!! I feel like I FOUND THE DENTAL GOD!!!! I believe everything happens for a reason and I am so grateful I trusted my gut and met him. I am flying back to Punta Cana in February to fix my dental implants and also get 5 crowns. This dental work I would never be able to afford in Canada. His work is A++++! Quality is amazing!!!! Please check him out on Instagram @drmiguelasenjo HE WILL NOT DISAPPOINT YOU! Thank you Dr.Miguel Asenjo for your hospitality and your caring personality!!! I will refer you to all my Canadian and USA friends for now on!! See you soon in 2017 when I come back for my next appt. Rating from 27 Reviews I was pleased with the results from Dr. Alonso.Nadine, US, 17 Nov 14

The communication and friendliness of the staff was a refreshing change. Extra treatments were not added just to inflate the price, which was appreciated. I'll see Dr. Alonso when I go back next year for my annual visit.

I highly recommendAudrey, US, 16 Nov 14

I am very pleased about how my treatment went! It cost 6800 for Porcelain Veneers, which I had done by Dr. Alonso. The prices in the Dominican Republic are way better than in the U.S and I highly recommend Hispadent Dental Services and Spa!!! I couldn't be happier with my new smile!
