What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

South Dublin Dental

(01) 901 0176 ext: 69619 2 Brighton Rd, Foxrock, Dublin 18
Rating from 13 Reviews Warm and caring staff that made sure I had an appointment right away.Kathryn, Bahamas, 01 Aug 16

I am visiting Ireland from the Bahamas, and I had a dental emergency. The staff at South Dublin Dental went out of their way to get me an urgent appointment. I was seen by Dr. Alec Granville. He spent a great deal of time trying to replace my crown that had fallen out, and did so in a way that made it completely pain-free. Unfortunately, since the tooth below had broken, it was impossible to do so. He thoroughly explained the pros and cons of the different options I would have for this tooth upon my return home. Warm and caring staff that made sure I had an appointment right away even though I am not a current patient and would not be returning to their practice as I am a visitor to Ireland.

Ganter Crowe Dental Care

296 Lower Kimmage Road, Terenure, Dublin 6W
Rating from 2 Reviews The whole area is modern, sleek, and the staff are warm and welcoming.Anastasia, Ireland, 18 Jul 16

My two children (seven and four) and myself are patients of Ganter Crowe. I have had a number of treatments (both with Michael and Shona), which have been expertly (and compassionately done; a nervous patient me!). Thanks to the brilliant rapport which all of the staff immediately established with both of the children. They quite happily attend their check-ups. Wholeheartedly recommend this clinic to all. I chose this clinic for us based on a recommendation from a friend, and she was spot-on. The whole area is modern, sleek, and the staff are warm and welcoming.

Rating from 15 Reviews I would definitely recommend this clinic to othersNikolay, Dublin, 06 May 14

Recementing a Crown Good service, warm and hygienic rooms, friendly staff, and a bit narrow, but available, parking facility. I was also incredibly pleased with Dr Mina Lazarevska and her professionalism and honest recommendations. I have studied four other clinics as well, and the price quoted here was reasonable (close to low end). I would definitely recommend this clinic to others.

Rating from 6 Reviews Very friendly and reassuring.Tracy, Tallaght, 22 Feb 16

Excellent, professional treatment. I had broken my back tooth very deeply, and expected to be told it would have to be taken out, but Tom put a pin in it and filled it. Called on Thursday and got an appointment for the following Saturday. Really pleased with my treatment; appointment for 12:20 on a Saturday and seen to at 12:20, no hanging around. Would highly recommend this practice. Very friendly and reassuring. I will definitely go back.

I am happy with the overall experiencChifuniro, Ireland, 27 Mar 17

I went for a consultation and I must say everything was explained to me during the consultation. This dentist was the closest to where I live so it was pretty good and the Dr. was helpful which made me feel comfortable. I am happy with the overall experience and the condition of the clinic was in a welcoming state which was clean and tidy.
