What is a root canal procedure?

Root canal procedures, or endodontics, is a treatment for the inner pulp of the tooth. They are performed to save teeth from extraction. The dentist or endodontist, a root canal specialist, cleans out the decayed or damaged pulp without breaking the exterior of the tooth root. The cleaned root canal is filled with a bio-compatible rubber-like material called gutta-percha. They are also performed for patients with damaged teeth caused by accidents or fractures. The procedure takes one to two hours to complete.

What are the types of root canal procedures?

Primary root canal treatments are performed using stainless steel files. Stainless steel files could remove only a small amount of infection and could easily break. The more advanced and flexible nickel titanium files do not break easily and are able to clean the entire infected area easily. Rotary instruments used to clean the root canal are quicker than manual instruments. Other advanced root canal procedures make use of ultrasound or laser to effectively clean the root canal.

Is a root canal procedure painful?

Root canal procedures are performed under local anaesthetic. Patients will not feel pain during the procedure.

What is the recovery time after having a root canal procedures?

Patients take about three days to recover after a root canal procedure. Some patients require a week to recover from a root canal procedure.

When can I travel by air after a root canal procedure?

It is safe to travel by air one day after a root canal procedure. Patients should check with their dentist before embarking on their journey. If they feel pain or discomfort, they should postpone their journey until it abates.

What care is required after a root canal procedure?

Patients should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should not eat until the anaesthetic wears off. They should not eat or drink very hot or very cold food for at least a week. They should avoid eating hard food or sticky food. If swelling occurs they should sleep with their head raised for a few days to bring it down.

What are the alternatives to root canal procedures?

Alternatives to root canal procedures include extractions and pulp capping procedures.

Rating from 20 Reviews I really liked the place when I arrivedAnonymous, South Africa, 03 Apr 18

This was the closest dentist that offered periodontitis treatment. I paid the same price listed on their website - it was great value for money. I really liked the place when I arrived. After the session, I went back for follow-up treatment. Everything was fine.

D4 Dentist

46 Upper Baggot Street, Dublin
Rating from 9 Reviews Stress-free and painless experienceSavana, Ireland, 12 Jun 17

I'm a nervous patient and, as usual, I started to feel, physically, the effects of my fear when I arrived at D4Dentist to start my treatment. I was really tense when I sat down. I even could feel my mouth getting dry and my voice getting shaky. Dr. Rozelle, who already knew about my condition, told me step by step what she was doing. She also asked me several times if I was ok. It was a stress-free and painless experience. This made me feel less nervous during my next appointments. In the end, I can also say that I never felt so relaxed in a dentist chair before and I highly recommend D4Dentist and Dr. Rozelle Owens. The clinic is spotless and very organized in every aspect. I can book my next visits online and I also get reminders of my appointments by email and SMS, which is very convenient.

Clonskeagh Dental

105 Clonskeagh Road, Clonskeagh
Rating from 2 Reviews I used to hate going to the dentist, but not anymoreStuart, Ireland, 06 Apr 14

Crown I decided to try a new clinic because I was not happy at all with my old one. Frank Dillon was highly advised by many of my friends and family, so I decided to give it a go. I called Frank and tried to arrange a last minute appointment after an accident I just had. He made time in his busy schedule to have a look and see what he could do for me. He explained that there was a bit of work to do and the sooner the better so he asked me to come back near closing time and worked till 9pm that night with me till everything was sorted. Keep in mind I was only a new patient to him and we have never met before, but he took the time to make sure I was comfortable and happy throughout the whole experience. I used to hate going to the dentist, but not anymore. Thanks again.

Rathgar Dental

Rating from 3 Reviews I fully trust them with any future work I need done.AnneMarie, carlow, 08 Mar 16

Had eight implants, a few crowns, and veneers. The whole journey took a while as this was huge job; two visits to Budapest, my choice, and lots and lots of fittings and check-ups as they make sure that everything is perfect. Am very satisfied with my new teeth; lost my fear of the dentist too! Absolutely brilliant clinic. Staff is friendly and very communicative about the treatments. Never had a dentist and nurse that were so patient and experts at their job. Budapest or Dublin both have excellent facilities; if you have treatments done in Budapest you can have your check-ups in Dublin, and believe me, they will make sure that you are 100% happy with the results. My journey wasn't an easy one, but their work ethics made it easier, and I fully trust them with any future work I need done.
