What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

Rating from 2 Reviews I cannot stop smilingClara, Ireland, 11 Jul 17

Best dentist I have attended to so far. Pat is really nice and made me feel very reassured about any treatments I have had done. He has changed my life for the better. He filled two of my front teeth to fill out my smile. Before I was so conscious of my teeth, now I cannot stop smiling. his work is excellent. I would highly recommend this dentist to anyone.

Excellent, would highly recommend.Elizabeth, Ireland, 08 Feb 17

I had been traveling to newry for several years due to high cost of dentistry work in republic, but as I was now only going for regular cleaning I felt it was not cost effective any longer and my teeth were still not looking too good. For convenience I decided to try Monread dental and I am really pleased with this choice. Dr o Brien has done amazing work on my teeth by filling small fissures that was causing stains to build up in same. Also did cosmetic work on bottom teeth that had become badly worn by filling back of same . I feel I can smile again without been embarrassed . His soda blasting for cleaning teeth has revolutionised teeth cleaning

Dental crowns are restorations that cover the whole surface of the tooth. Crowns are used to rebuild broken or excessively damaged teeth, and improve appearance. Crowns can be made from a metal (such as gold), or natural looking tooth coloured porcelain or sometimes, for strength and appearance, a combination of both.

The hygienist, Donna, did a very good job cleaning my teeth. She also went the extra mile in terms of friendliness and willingness to spend plenty of time teaching how to floss teeth properly and giving general dental hygiene advice.

Riverside Dental Practice

Main Street, Celbridge
Rating from 5 Reviews A gentleman and a professionalBrendan, Ireland, 24 Jan 16

I went to the clinic, 4 days after I put a note on whatclinic.com which was very good. The appointment was for midday, but due to the clinic being busy with other patients, it was delayed by approximately 40mins. However the staff in fareness apologised for the dalay. The dentist I met was a gentleman and very professional and explained what checkup he was doing, he did however take some x rays, just to make sure the teeth and gums were well. He suggested that I make an appointment again in 2/3 weeks to review gums. All round very happy with dentist, but was a was a bit shocked at the price, as the agreed price was more after my 30min visit, due to x rays and charged for touch up filling and clean which wasn't really done on this 30min visit. However! I received a call later that night from the dentist at home, to say they over charged me for the clean which wasn't done. So far play to him for noticing that from the receptionist mistake. They will discount this amount from my next visit. Very professional dentist and a gentleman to deal with. I would recommend that you keep checking the price while getting anything done or reviewed, in case charged at the desk incorrectly or if your short. But! I would still recommend the dentistry...

I was very happy with result.Brid, Dublin, 17 Oct 13

Leinster Clinic

Rating from 4 Reviews Highly recommendFiona, Ireland, 20 Nov 13

long consultation and tests I'd been ill for a few years. By the time Dr. Wilson saw me I'd just about given up, having undergone years of tests and misdiagnosis. Dr Wilson knew within 5 minutes what my problem was, explained it to me and put me on the road to recovery. Truthfully, his approach is so refreshing, your good health is his only agenda, and it shows. nutrition became my mantra and I would highly recommend Dr Wilson for anybody for whom the usual avenues are leading nowhere. I couldn't recommend him and his staff highly enough, imagine looking forward to visiting your doc, what a concept! :-)

Highly recommendedKevin, Ireland, 03 Jan 15

many I could not recommend Leinster Clinic and Dr Neville Wilson highly enough. I started attending in 2010 having been to 3 other surgeries for the same problem which remained unresolved. Within minutes Dr Wilson had put me at ease and diagnosed the root of the cause rather than just prescribing to hide the symptoms . Dr Wilson set me on a path of nutrition rather than masking symptoms with pharmaceutical drugs. Leinster Clinic staff have the same relaxed and friendly attitude as Dr Wilson. The best , friendliest and most informative clinic I have ever attended. They are a leading light in what a family Dr should be.

Rating from 2 Reviews I would recommend Jordan to family and friendsAdam, UK, 19 Apr 16

I suffered an ACL injury following a injury playing rugby with a secondary complication of compartment syndrome following surgery (did not even know this existed), I thought that I would struggle to play again. I saw Jordan Griffiths with my injuries has been great. He guided through my rehab and explained each step in simple terms. He gave me confidence throughout that I would be able to play again I would just have to be patient. Being a rugby player himself Jordan understood my desire to get fit and pushed me in a professional and friendly manor. I am now back training and running again and I will should be fit for the start of next season. I would recommend Jordan to family and friends. The clinic was easy to find and had parking outside. It was complete with a gymnasium where I was able to increase the progression by doing plyometric work and have space to learn how to work correctly again. There is also a hydrotherapy pool which I occasionally used for rehab. Staff were friendly and I would recommend the clinic to my family and friends.
