What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is performed for dental procedures for anxious patients by administering medications to help them relax. Many patients avoid getting the required dental help because of their fear of the dentist. Sedation dentistry is performed to ensure that nervous patients enjoy healthy mouths and teeth.

What are the types of dental sedation?

The different types of dental sedation are; inhalation sedation, for patients requiring mild sedation also called anxiolysis; oral sedation, by asking patients to swallow a pill; TENS, using electrical impulses to numb the area; topical anaesthesia, using a swab to numb the area; or intra-venous sedation, for patients requiring moderate sedation and general anaesthesia for patients requiring deep sedation. General anaesthesia is used for patients only in a hospital and not in a dentist chair.

Is Sedation Dentistry painful?

Oral sedation, inhalation sedation, TENS and topical sedation are not painful. Intra-venous sedation and general anaesthesia need to be injected and patients may feel pain when the sedative is injected.

Patients should travel by air two days after sedation dentistry. They should take the advice of their dentist before embarking on their journey.   

How long does recovery after Sedation Dentistry take?

Recovery from dental sedation takes between 40 to 90 minutes. Recovery depends on the type of sedation administered.

Patients should rest for at least three hours after sedation dentistry. They should not eat for at least four hours, until the anaesthesia wears off. They should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should resume work at least one day after sedation dentistry. They should not smoke or drink alcohol for at least two days after sedation dentistry. They should follow all dietary prescriptions given by their dentist correctly.

Dr İlker was lovely, I am a bit scared about dentists, but the team and the Doctor explained every little detailed I asked, and I asked a lot, hahaha. I have the smile design, with crowns because my natural teeth needed to be fully cover. My friend did with veneers because fit her better. He is definitely worth it! It is not a cheap Dr neither is a cheap material, all original. We did our smiles 2 years ago, and still perfect! Thank you Dr and to the whole team at DentSuadiye.

I don't normally write reviews, however, I felt compelled to do so after having a fantastic experience at Dr. Tolga's clinic. My best friend is married to a Turkish woman and she recommended his clinic. I needed a couple implants and was quoted an extortionate amount in the UK. I was worried to have it abroad however as soon as I made contact with them, they were professional and friendly from start to finish. The treatment I had was fantastic. The price was half the amount quoted in the UK, I can't thank them enough, I would highly recommend them if you need any dental care/implants. I am going back in a few months to bring my mum to have some treatment and holiday. Thanks, Tolga and the team!

Before development of dental implants, dentures were the only alternative to replacing a missing tooth or teeth. Implants are synthetic structures that are placed in the area of the tooth normally occupied by the root. In general, good candidates who have dental implants can expect high success rates with the procedure. The procedure can take several visits. During the first visit, an anchor is placed into the jawbone and the site is allowed to heal for several weeks or months. This gives your tissue time to grow around the anchor to more firmly hold it in place. During a follow-up visit, an artificial, natural-looking tooth is fitted over the implanted anchor.

Fantastic service from fantastic staff. I have my smile back! From my arrival on the first visit to going home after my second visit, the care given was second to none. Very professional, and the clinic was exceptionally clean. I woke up after my op on the first visit, with no pain which was incredible. And this continued throughout all visits.
